C. Jakarta to Add Urban Agricultural Land

The existence of urban agricultural land in Central Jakarta will be added in the near future. It is done by utilizing citizens' yard for farming. 

We plan to add crop cultivation land in Petojo Selatan Urban Village, Gambir

According to Muljadi, Head of Central Jakarta Maritime, Agricultural, and Food Security Sub-Department, citizens' yard can be planted with various vegetables using poly bag and empty cans. The type of plants that will be cultivated is a plant that have short planting period such as spinach and water spinach. 

"We plan to add crop cultivation land in Petojo Selatan Urban Village, Gambir. Eventually, there will be a farmer group and instructor to monitor them," he said, Tuesday (4/14).

He continued, concept of urban agriculture using poly bag will be conducted in narrow alley of residential. Each family will be given 20 plant seeds thus its residential environment could look more beautiful. "Besides greening, it can also increase nutrient of family," he explained. 

Muljadi added, one of the plants that can increase economic value of family is red ginger. It is able to be done in limited media and its current price is high in market. "That's why, we keep encouraging local citizens to farm," he disclosed.
